I built my first belt grinder in 2008 using the NWG (No Weld Grinder) plans from www.usaknifemaker.com. This grinder is based on the KMG grinder (Knife Maker's Grinder) http://www.beaumontmetalworks.com/grinder.html. Once I saw how well the grinder worked I began conducting workshops to build the grinders and building the grinders for sale.
After several modifications I now offer direct drive grinders with a 1.5 or 2 hp TEFC (totally enclosed fan cooled) motor and VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) with a NEMA 4X enclosure (dust proof and water tight) to enable the user to adjust the rpm of the motor from 0 rpm to 3600 rpm. The frame is built all of solid stock and is solidly welded together. The tool arm has a 2" and 8" contact wheel, flat platen and slack belt areas. The grinder comes in 4 boxes with complete instructions for the assembly including wiring instructions. This grinder can also be configured to be used with the belt moving both in a vertical or horizontal direction. The only thing required to be supplied by the purchaser is plywood for the base, some time and simple hand tools.
Unfortunately, due to the dishonest and unscrupulous actions of a few persons I am no longer able to build and sell the belt grinders, nor due to the actions of PayPal I am no longer accepting payments via PayPal. I am still offering the DVD so that you can build your own grinder and save a lot of money. This is a very simple and easy grinder to build. If you can just make a few cuts in metal, drill holes, tap a few holes and to a few short welds (or can outsource the welding) you can build this grinder.
I am offering a DVD that has PDF printable pages showing all materials (with dimensions) needed to build a Moe's Grinder and I build a grinder on the DVD. I believe that this is a new concept for instructing purchasers on the complete construction of the grinder.

Here I have videos demonstrating my grinders. This should give you more information.
There are many grinders available that supply different degrees of "fit and finish".
For years there were only the grinders supplied by big name companies such as Bader, Wilton Square Wheel, and Burr King.
Then several years ago Beaumont Metal Works started building and selling the KMG (Knife Maker's Grinder). http://www.beaumontmetalworks.com/grinder.html
After the KMG came out several makers copied the design or cloned it or built modifications of it. There are plans for a clone on the Don Fogg web site. There is the GIB (Grinder In A Box) by Polar Bear Forge (www.polarbearforge.com
) and the Wilmont Grinder (www.wilmontgrinders.com
) all of which are loosely based on the KMG.
Tracy Mickley had a KMG and wanted another grinder so based on his KMG he built the NWG (No Weld Grinder) using square tubing for the major components and sells the plans and components under the name of USA Knifemaker (www.usaknifemaker.com
I built my first grinder using the NWG plans and have now so modified it that it bears little resemblance to the NWG or the KMG.
Even if you decide that one of these other grinders better suit your needs I can supply you with the motor, VFD, wiring and bracket that you will need to finish your grinder.
See my Motors & VFD page for further information.
Please note that all sales are FOB the shipper. If you want your shipment insured be sure and ask that it be added to the shipping costs.
